Church planting
Go and make disciples in all the nations, baptizing them into the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit. Teach these new disciples to obey all the commands I have given you.
Matthew 28:19-20 New Living
A church planter and a church builder have exactly the above purpose: to seek, tell, teach and stimulate others and invite them to follow the One Who is your great Example.
Characteristics
The church planter or church builder is mainly friendly, extrovert and people oriented. You have no problem making friends and it is your desire to bring them in contact with Jesus Christ. You teach young believers to become a student (disciple) and you either introduce them to a local church or you form a local church with them.
Preparation and experience
A completed Bible School or theological schooling is a precondition. Extra training like outreach among Moslems can be of additional value. Experience as a pastoral counsellor in a local church is vital. Here you can learn how to lead a congregation and experience
the challenges pastoral workers encounter.
Your relationship with non-Christians
Meeting and befriending people with other goals, morals and convictions than your own is very important. People who may be outside your comfort zone - and showing them the love of Christ, will create an attitude of love, respect and vision in you. Those are necessary ingredients if you want to "succeed" in the mission field.
So, if you were raised in a Christian family, attained Christian schools and all of your friends are Christians, then consider if it's a good thing to get some working experience in society before you "go out".
