Me… A calling?

How do I know that God calls me for a certain task. How will God speak to me? Will I not just hear my own voice, follow my own ideas? Must I experience a special calling, or do I already have one, being a Christian?

Calling

There are two different kinds of calling.
1. A general calling meant for every Christian. That is the calling to believe, to repent and to convert. The calling also to follow Jesus and to go out and tell the gospel.

2. A personal calling for a specific task. Think of people in the Bible like Samuel, Jeremiah and St. Paul.

Gods will or your desire

Your own desires can be so intense that they suppress the voice of God. You think you hear the Lord speaking to you, but you only listen to your own desires. So many Christians look back at broken relations and broken churches because they thought they had heard Gods voice. However true all this is, never think that you cannot hear Gods voice or that you cannot find out what His will for your life is. Learn to understand the way Gods speaks, how He wants to reveal Himself to you. But never, never manipulate Him!

A thought may come up in you and though not wrong, this thought may not necessarily come from God. Pray therefore earnestly for every thought that comes up in you and ask the Lord to reveal His plans to you. Most of the times He will let you know through His Word and by His Spirit. These two are inseparable. Gods Spirit and Gods Word walk hand in hand. Ask a mature christian to help you.
